THE COUNCIL REQUIRES ONLY PHYSIOS AND ONLY PHYSIOS ON ITS REGISTER AND ALSO IT HAS TO OFFER US THE FREEDOM TO PRACTICE IN A WAY THAT WE ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR OUR ACTIONS.

Its very good that there is some concern of forming a statutory body to regulate the Physiotherapy profession but I strongly feel that we Physiotherapist of India should have an separate council under which all Physiotherapists should be registered in one separate register so that we (Physiotherapist) can practice independently in clinical settings. My view about this bill is that we (Physiotherapist) should be provided with an separate council for Physiotherapist like medical, dental, pharmacy or nursing council.

We have forwarded our memorandum to the Chairman, Department Related Committee on Health and Family Welfare, Government of india through e-mail and fax today. We have tried our best to include all the relavant points raised by you all, in our memorandum. The main point of concerns raised are:

  1. Inadequacy and vagueness of the defitiniton of physiotherapy in the bill
  2. Inclusion of Occupational therapists in the council
  3. Council and committee formation concerns
The full form of the memorandum in PDF format is downloadable here:

Thanks to everyone who have posted their concerns in the forums, conveyed them to us through e-mails, private messages and telephone calls.

Right, Ajin !
I feel that we have a lesser point to argue abut diferetn councils for PT and OT . Are we not having a single council for OT and PT under the Delhi Act and Maharashtra Act ? Or is it diferent Councils ? Since we have qouted those Acts as reference , it should come into discussion !

i feel that point is the last one that should be considered as we have more pressing problems on our hands, cos the formation of a council is our major concern.
with all that is goin on in india today, esp the kidney racket i think the doctors who are forcing themselves on us must reconsider themselves although i must say that there are a lot of doctors who support us and also wish for our well being as a profession.......this must not include all those whose ego and unprofessional behaviour does more harm to the patient than good!!!!!!!!!!
