Indian physio Leipus to quit, but will return

Friday 24 December 2004 - 00:16:10

Qaiser Mohammad Ali (IANS)
Kanpur, November 26

The Indian team's physiotherapist Andrew Leipus, who has announced he is quitting after India's tour of Bangladesh next month to "stimulate" himself, says he would "definitely return" to work "with or without" the cricket board.

"I will definitely leave after the Bangladesh tour, that's the truth," Leipus said.

"But I need to talk to the board and I hope to do that soon," he said about his impending meeting with the new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Ranbir Singh Mahendra.

Leipus said he has valid reasons to take a break from a job he has held for five years, during which he has had his hands full considering the injuries to a number of players.

"I want to stimulate myself more than anything else. After five years of doing the same thing, one needs to take a break," he said after the first Test against South Africa at Kanpur earlier this week.

"Another reason is that I need to do advance studies (in physiotherapy), which I have not been able to do while with the Indian team. I want to catch up with the latest advancements made in physiotherapy," said the affable Leipus.
